Alphabetum Graecum..., Paris, Robert Estienne, 1550.
Numerous editions were printed under this title in various cities where Humanist letters were cultivated, such as Paris, Basel, Venice and elsewhere, the objective of which was for Westerners to learn Greek. [Γράμματα ἑλληνικὰ καὶ εἰσαγωγὴ πρὸς τὴν τῶν Ἑλλήνων λόγων ἀνάγνωσιν, & προχείριαν πρὸς τὴν γραμματικήν, Greek letters and introduction to reading Greek and a grammar handbook]. The first edition of this grammatical composition circulated in Basel, issued by J. Froben’s press in 1518. Other than the grammars written by Chrysoloras, Gazis, Laskaris, Chalkokondyles and Moschopoulos, similar manuals had been written and form a corpus of several editions, such as the Breuissima introductio ad litteras graecas, composed by Aldus himself, who printed it in 1497.
