The Tropaion was written by Antonios Manuel, based on the work by the Italian G. Gaeti Il giovine istruito, which Manuel complemented with a wealth of references to ancient and Byzantine authors as well as modern, both secular and ecclesiastics. The book is highly encyclopaedic, full of references/quotations, biographical notes and citations. Manuel was born in Patras, was Serdar of the Principality of Moldavia, and worked on the Tropaion during his stay in Transylvania’s Stephanopolis.
