First edition. A second edition was published in 1868. Breton was a popular author who wrote on subjects such as art, ancient history and archaeology. He travelled in Greece in the years 1858-1859, and first wrote about his journey to the Peloponnese in Investigateur in 1860. His articles “Du Pirée à la Corne d'Or” (1862) and “Un dimanche à Constantinople” (1863) also include his experiences from his travels in the Levant.
